Notwithstanding the implications of the title (suggesting 1794 as the end point), this volume recounts the histories of Yarmouth and Dennis, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, from the first explorations of the English colonists in the 1620’s through the early 1880’s. Though relatively brief as town histories go (having avoided the pointless theological speculations that fill many books of its kind), this work is full of useful information about the lives of the people who settled, lived, and died in these two Cape Cod towns.
Prominent families from the earliest times included Thacher, Crow (Crowell), Howes, Hallet, Sturges, Hawes, Starr, Simpkins, Chase, Rider, Gorham, Sears, Dennis, Nickerson, Hall, Matthews, Taylor, Hedge, Baker, Barnes, Worden, Eldridge, Lumpkin, Tilley, White, Joyce, Berry, Falland, Whelden, and Miller.
