Bosworth

Bosworth Genealogy: a History of the Descendants of Edward Bosworth Who Arrived in America in the Year 1634, by Mary  Bosworth Clarke.  Digital Edition on CD-ROM © August 1999

This genealogy was published in San Francisco in six volumes between 1926 and 1940. The volumes range in length from 124 pages (volume I) to 238 pages (volume VI). The pages are numbered consecutively from the first volume through the last to arrive at a total length of 1,018 pages -- plus approximately 80 inter-leaved (un-numbered) images.

It has no index (not problem for Digital Edition users, but a pain in the butt for everybody else), nor does it have the "Appendix Containing Other Lines of American Bosworths" promised on the title page of the first volume.

We suspect that Ms. Clarke had hoped to continue the work beyond Volume VI -- the "plus" signs appended to the record numbers of the eighth generation suggest more to come -- but she was by no means a young woman in 1940 (her father was born in 1810!) Sensing, no doubt, that she might not be able to do a seventh volume, Ms. Clarke extended the scope of Volume VI to cover many families through the eleventh and twelfth generations.

The work contains substantial biographical data, with noteworthy emphasis on property transactions and military service.

The Digital Edition:  One text file  (4.5 Mb) and eighty-six high-resolution images (12.1 Mb). Although the text file is rather large, having all six volumes (1,018 pages) in a single file facilitates the search capabilities of your word processing software.

Enhancements include: Hyperlinks in the text to corresponding image files; a summary "Table of Contents" with hyperlinks to the separate detailed TOCs of the six volumes; hyperlinks from the detailed TOCs to the indexed pages; intergenerational hyperlinks -- the click of a button allows you to jump instantly from a family in the fifth generation (for example) to the families of its off-spring in the sixth generation, and back again, if you wish.

Price, shipping included: $ 55.00 (before ordering, please see our note on prices)

N.B. You can get a paper-bound "xerox" copy of this genealogy from the Higginson Book Company for $158.50 (shipping included) -- complete with no index, no search capability, no "copy and paste" option and no hyperlink. A copy of the original recently sold on eBay (September 1999) for $217.

Bosworth Bulletins, by Mary Bosworth Clarke, Grace Clarke Miller, and Barbara Anderson; edited by Katherine Gray.  Two volumes, 654 pages.  Digital Edition on CD-ROM © May 2004

"Bosworth Bulletins on CD" is the first-ever publication of the original thirty-nine Bosworth Bulletins by Mary Bosworth Clarke and the subsequent thirty-one Bosworth Bulletins by Barbara Anderson, Mrs. Clarke's great-granddaughter.

The Bulletins are presented in two volumes: Volume I holds the Bulletins published by Mrs. Clarke between 1923 and 1942 (the last four having been published by her daughter, Grace Clarke Miller); Volume II holds the Bulletins published by Barbara Anderson between 1979 and 1995.  The entire collection has been edited by Katherine Gray, a Bosworth descendant.  The Bulletins are directly related to the six-volume Bosworth Genealogy published by Mrs. Clarke between 1926 and 1940.  They contain historic detail, stories, biographies, photos, and vital statistics not included in the Genealogy.

The Bosworths in these Bulletins are descended from Edward and Mary Bosworth, who emigrated from England to America in 1634 and first settled in Hingham, Massachusetts.

The Digital Edition: Two text files (3.9 Mb) and 122 images (11.3 Mb).

Enhancements include: An easy-to-read format; a table of contents for each volume with hyperlinks to assist in navigation; added notes by the editor.

Price, shipping included: $ 45.00 (before ordering, please see our note on prices)
