Jacob Benson, one of the first settlers of Dutchess County, New York, is said to have come there, about 1742, from Rhode Island. His descendants are tracked in this history through about six generations (ninety pages). Additionally, the volume includes notes on the early history of the Benson family in New England and New York, notes on Amenia, New York, and its Benson "neighborhood," two poems celebrating the history of the family, and an assortment of anecdotes
